Florida Skunk Ape
I found this interesting article about the Florida Skunk Ape which is Florida’s version of Bigfoot.
In response to thousands of sightings, the State Legislature in April 1977, introduced a bill (H.B.1664) to protect the elusive man-ape which in part, stated, “Any person taking, possessing, harming or molesting any anthropoid or humanoid animal which is native to Florida, popularly known as the Skunk Ape, or doing any act reasonably capable of harming or molesting such animals…” State Representative Paul Nuckolls wanted to make it a misdemeanor to capture or harass a skunk ape. “I’d hate to see someone catch one and put it in a circus or in a zoo,” remarked Representative Nuckolls. The bill never passed into law but that hasn’t stopped discussions about trying it again.
The other night I heard some animal howling. It was coming from a grove of trees behind my house. I have heard it many times before and I have usually shrugged it off saying it was wild dogs or a coyote. I now think that a Skunk Ape or possibly even Skunk Apes live in the grove of trees. I am going to put some raw beef in my backyard to try to lure it in closer so I can get a picture. It seems like a solid plan. What anthropoid or humanoid could pass up a hunk of raw beef?
