Seven New Wonders of the World
They just announced the list of the Seven New Wonders of the World. You could vote for these through the internet or phone.
Here they are and my thoughts:
The Great Wall of China- If you can see a wall from space you deserve to be on the list
The Incan ruins of Machu Picchu- I have seen these on tv and it looked impressive. Not as impressive as a fully operational Death Star but I agree it should be on the list
The statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro- I don’t know about this one. Again I have only seen this one on tv. Most recently in CSI: Miami (nothing like watching Horatio dish out some good old American vigilante justice in South America) but it is only a statue. If you are going to have a statue on the list I suggest the Moai’s from Easter Island. They have been around for hundreds of years. It is not even that old. The statue of Christ opened in 1931. If that statue is still there in a few hundred years we should revisit these comments.
The ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico- This is the one site I have personally seen with my own eyes. The ruins are truly a site to behold. I would suggest viewing them in the cooler months. I went in August. It was 100 degrees, 100% humidity and the local malaria carrying mosquitoes love nothing better than to drink gringo blood.
The pink ruins of Petra in Jordan- According to grail legend this is the final resting place of the Holy Grail. If you go here you would to well to remember that in Latin Jehovah starts with an “I” and that the penitent man is humble before God and kneels. From there you are on your own.
The Coliseum in Rome- Gladiators fought here. Gladiators are cool.
The Taj Mahal mausoleum- It started out as a place to hold a dead wife and look what it grew into. I’ll allow it.
