Gary Thompson, supervisor of disease control for the Baltimore County Health Department, talks about this case.
Baltimore County health officials are looking for a man who assisted a swimmer last weekend who was being attacked by a rabid beaver.
The man helped a swimmer and her husband fight off the beaver in an inlet of the Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County on Sunday.
Health officials describe the man as “a good Samaritan” but who left the scene once the animal was captured.
He is described as a white male in his mid-twenties with a muscular build, light-colored hair and wearing yellow and white swim trunks.
Officials believe the man may have been scratched, and may have to face rabies shots. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man should call the County health Department at 410-887-2724.
The swimmer and her husband are already undergoing rabies shots, along with another swimmer who officials believe was attacked by the same animal on Saturday.
Gary Thompson, supervisor of disease control for the Baltimore County health Department says attacks by rabid beavers are extremely rare.
Swimming is illegal in the Loch Raven Reservoir, although health officials are not certain if the swimmers will be cited.
