Beer Better Than Water

November 9th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

Beer is better than water.  That is the kind of news I like to hear and that is just what Spanish researchers are saying.  They tested college students that had to perform strenuous exercises in 104 degree temperatures.  After the exercising one group was given water and another was given beer.  Turns out the hydration effect was better in the beer drinking group.  This study has met with its share of skepticism but that happens in just about every study.  Tomorrow morning after my daily exercises I will enjoy a nice cold beer.  When Mrs. Mai Tai asks me why I am drinking at 7:00 am I will tell her that Spanish researchers said I should drink more beer to rehydrate.  You can’t argue with Spanish researchers.

Beer 911

November 8th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

You just drank your last beer.  What do you do?  This is an emergency you have no beer.  Naturally you call 911 and tell the dispatcher that they need to bring you beer.  After all you pay your taxes and you should see some benefit from the service.  If it doesn’t work call again and again.  Eventually the police arrived but it wasn’t to bring the man beer it was to arrest him for disorderly conduct.

Romanian Talk Show Fight

November 7th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

In Romania the rules are different for talk show hosts.  If they don’t hear what they want they open a can of whup ass or in this case staged whup ass.  In America talk show hosts don’t beat up their guests.  It would be great if they did though.  I can totally imagine Larry King standing up and slowly walking over to his guest and sucker punching him in the back of the head.  That would be awesome.

Secret Beauty Tip

November 6th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

How do Japanese women retain their youthful appearance?  Pig placenta smoothie.  Actually it is blended pig placenta and it is sold in small bottles but I am sure you could make it into a smoothie if you wanted to.  I don’t know about you but if given the choice of aging or drinking pig placenta I will choose aging.

How Healthy is Your State?

November 6th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

WebMD has posted a list of the states ranking them from healthiest to most unhealthy. Vermont ranked number one on the list.  I live in Florida. We ranked 41. Mississippi ranked dead last at 50.

The survey uses a combined score of health indicators and policy questions to rank all 50 states. Obesity rates, tobacco and alcohol use, and high school graduation rates are accounted for, as are state laws and regulations promoting better health. The survey measures access to health services and also environmental issues like pollution, infectious disease rates, and crime.

I wonder if they take the age of the population into account when they compile the rankings. I am sure Florida has a higher death rate than many states. Officially Florida is the Sunshine Stae. Unofficially Florida is commonly referred to as the state of the newlywed and the almost dead. That should tell you something about the age of the population. It could be worse though. I could be in Mississippi.

Turducken

November 5th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

What are you having for Thanksgiving dinner?  Most people will respond with turkey.  Turkey is the traditional Thanksgiving meal.  Perhaps this year you like to have something a little less traditional.  Might a suggest a  turducken?  There is still enough time to place your order and to have this Frankenstein monster of birds delivered to your home in time for your Thanksgiving feast.  I have never tried one so I don’t know how it tastes.  If you do order one post a comment and let me know how it is or better yet invite Mr. Mai Tai over for Thanksgiving dinner.

November 3rd, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

The days are getting cooler so here is a great tasting drink that will warm you from the inside out.  It is also easy to make.

Tahitian Coffee

7 ounces of hot coffee

1/4 ounces of Cointreau

4 dashes of Cognac

It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Travelling to France

November 3rd, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

I like to travel.  I have never been to Europe and have been looking for places to visit for my next vacation.  One of the countries I know I want to see is France. I usually check the web during the planning stages of any trip. If I need France accomodations I will hit the web and see what places are available and the cost. I also like to read reviews of people that have stayed there. Sometimes you have to take them with a grain of salt but overall I find them helpful. When I go on the trip I always make sure I have a pocket travel guide. There are plenty to choose from so I know I will have a France travel guide with me too. The movie Eurotrip mentions Frommers a lot. Movies don’t steer you wrong so that might be a good one to look at. Planning the trip is usually one of my favorite things to do. It builds anticipation for the trip and gives yo something to do while you count the days down to your next vacation.

Thor Tiki Mugs

November 3rd, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

I collect tiki mugs.  Big ones.  Small ones.  Old ones. New ones.  I just have to like the design.  Thor is releasing a few new mugs.  I think The Tussler is my favorite design of the three. The Red Devil is cool too but it isn’t tiki. Check them out at The Thor Store.

Wrestlemania XXIV

November 2nd, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

I am a wrestling fan.  Not as much as I used to be but I still follow it.  I  have been to a number of live events.  A few years ago WWE held one of their pay-per-views in Orlando.  This was the first time that I can remember a pay-per-view taking place here so I went to see Armageddon with my friends.  This year WWE announced that Wrestlemania XXIV would take place in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl.  Wrestlemania is like the Super Bowl for wrestling.  This is probably the only time I will go to a Wrestlemania event and it is right in my backyard.  I will be going.  I had been checking Ticketmaster regularly to see when the tickets were going for sale.  On Monday I received an e-mail that said I could take part in a limited pre-sale as I had purchased tickets before for an event at the Citrus Bowl.  That pre-sale started yesterday.  The tickets officially go on sale on Saturday.  At 10:00 I made sure the computer was on and with the help of a friend we did the search for tickets.  We started out with a $90 ticket.  $90 was the base price you had to add in quite a few additional fees.  After fees it was a little too expensive so we went to the $50 tickets.  They were more reasonable.  The Citrus Bowl is not my favorite venue in town.  I would have had a hard time paying over $100 for tickets at the Citrus Bowl.  $50 is about the right amount for that stadium.  On 3/30/08 I will be one of the thousands of people in attendance.  My only worry.  The Citrus Bowl is not covered.  Florida weather in March is unpredictable.  It could be warm it could be cold.  It could by raining or it could be sunny.  Sitting for hours in the pouring rain is not going to be that much fun.  Here is hoping for good weather.  Are you ready to rumble?
