When I was in high school we took a field trip to Edgar Allan Poe’s Baltimore home and then went to his grave site. The tour guide at the grave told us the story of the mysterious visitor that would show up on Poe’s birthday. The visitor leaves behind three roses and a half a bottle of cognac. One of the old historians came out and said he was the mystery visitor and they did it as a publicity stunt. Someone else is now keeping the tradition alive. I hope we never really know who does it. Sometimes we need a good mystery.
Mr. Mai Tai gets a lot of questions. One of the most common is “How do I find a tiki bar in my area?” I was preparing to write a long post with lots of great tips and information. The problem I have is that writing makes me thristy. I write a sentence and reward myself with a drink. Write another sentence and have a drink. By the time I get to the fourth or fifth sentence I don’t really want to write anymore. I’ve read that Ernest Hemingway also subsribed to this method of writing. Then I found that someone had already done the work for me. Check out eHow for the instructions.
Needa new pair of kicks? Then I suggest the Adidas Darth Vader or Yoda sneakers. They are a bit picey but can you put a price on Jedi Master and Sith footwear. I don’t think so.
I have a fez. It is a standard red fez with a black tassle. I need a better one. Fez-O-Rama is the place where I will get my next fez. I just need to find the size of my head. I would like to get all of my friends fez’s too. People don’t wear fez’s enough. I would like to change that. I just need to pick out the style I want. I am leaning towards the smoking gorilla fez.
I am not a huge fan of Disney’s Pleasure Island but I like to know what is going on with the local theme parks. According to the local news Disney’s Rock N Roll Beach Club one of the older clubs on Pleasure Island is going to be closing on 2/2. If you are a fan of the club or want to see it before it closes you better go soon.
The Hukilau dates for 2008 have been set. If you are available 6/12-6/15 and are in the Ft. Lauderdale area you need to check it out. I have wanted to go to the Hukilau for years. I just have never made it down there. I have been to the Mai Kai and that alone was worth the drive from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale. I don’t know if I will make it down this year but one of these days I will get to The Hukilau.
Coming to a store near you is the Krups Heineken Beertender. It has been available in Europe for awhile but will now be sold in the good old U.S. of A. Williams-Sonoma is going to be selling it first and other retailers should be picking it up later. It holds a 5 liter beer keg. It is a cool idea if you don’t have a kegerator. The downside is that it looks like it only accepts Heineken. Heineken isn’t my first choice when it comes to beer. If it is exclusively a Heineken dispenser I will pass on this but it is a cool idea.
I received a chain e-mail about the Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden having a contest where the artist had to create something out of one sheet of paper. I don’t know too much about it and can’t find any information about it so the validity of the e-mail comes into question. Wherever these came from some of the things they did are amazing.
The makers of Lego Star Wars are making a Lego Batman game. I am still waiting for the Lego Indiana Jones game which was is also supposed to be released sometime in 2008.
This was being featured at CES this week. I need one. I could sleep while it drove me to work. On a good day it takes me 15 minutes to get to work. That would be 75 extra minutes of sleep every week. If my math is right that would be 65 extra hours of sleep a year. That would be sweet.
