Luau Music
April 22nd, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai
You are throwing a luau. You have the food. You have the drinks. You have the decor. Do you have the music? No luau would be complete without the appropriate music. Don’t be one of those people that plays reggae at a luau. Reggae has its place but a luau is not one of those places. The same goes for Jimmy Buffet. No Jimmy Buffet at the luau. What you need is some good Hawaiian music with the ukele and slack key guitar. There are plenty of good musicians. One of my favorites is Daniel Ho. You can’t go wrong with one of his albums.

Oh but wouldn’t you rather hear Hawaiian music from a local musician who actually lives in Hawai`i???
For `ukulele — Eddie Kamae, Ohta-San, Troy Fernandez, Palolo, Ka`au Crater Boys, Herb Ohta, Jr.
For slack key guitar — Ledward Kaapana, Dennis Kamakahi, Raymond Kane, Keola Beamer
For steel guitar — Bobby Ingano, or even transplant Jerry Byrd
Also check the recordings of Maile Serenaders, Sons of Hawai`i, Kahauanu Lake Trio, and New Hawaiian Band
