Media Streaming on the Xbox 360

July 2nd, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I just bought an Xbox 360. If you are looking for one and want a deal check out your local Sharper Image. They are going out of business and everything is on sale including the Xbox 360. The deal was too good to pass up so I bought one. I hooked it up last night and connected to XBox Live. My handle of course is Mister Mai Tai. Someone already snagedd Mr. Mai Tai so I had to go with the next best thing. Only problem I am having is with the media streaming. I downloaded Windows Media Player 11. I opened it up to file sharing with the Xbox. Problem is the Xbox fails when it looks for the media.  I thought Zone Alarm was blocking it so I shut it down but that didn’t work.  The Xbox suggests I open some ports up but with the free edition of Zone Alarm I don’t think you can open specific ports. If you can open ports I haven’t figured it out yet.  In the meantime if smart readers out there with some tips to get it to connect shoot me a comment.

Craigs List Scam

June 2nd, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I am trying to sell some furnitiure on Craigs List.  I listed the items on Monday.  yesterday I got a response from an interested party.  His first response sounded legit.  He just wanted to know if it was still for sale.  Last night he sent another e-mail this one a bit more suspicious.  I had some free time so I composed an answer.  I don’t think he will respond but if he does I will let you know.

Suspicious E-mail from Micheal Smith

I got all information i needed about it, since you can assure me the goodness of it, i will be purchasing it Like i said earlier, with additional $200 of your asking price. I wish i could visit  you to take a look at it but due to my present Business engagement, i will not be able to come over there to look at it or offer you cash in person, and we have a private shipping company that will handle everything after you have your money in hand. As there are too many scams on internet as regards buying and selling with large bogus account, we need to protect our self, that is why our mode of payment will be via electronic cashier check. Echeck is simple, secured, legal, fast and it is setup to eliminate the stress of  putting check in mail for days. You can read more on how i-versa check works at www.iversacheck.com and also to let you know more about its legitimacy. you must received cash from your bank before the shipping company will come to pick it up.  All what you just need to do is to get a business versacheck paper and versaink, cost of $51.97. Once you have this,  i will send the electronic check to your email for printing. You can then print and proceed to clear and cash the check at your bank. The cost of procuring the check paper and ink will be added to the bottom price. you can get business versa check paper and versa ink,  at office depot, officemax, staples or any stationary store wal-mart  shopping moll around. I will be waiting to read from you soon. get back to me as soon as you get the check paper and ink. you are not the only one i asked from, and first come first serve, buy the material  today, to make it faster.

Thanks God bless you.

My Response

Your offer of an additional $200 is very generous.  However, if you cannot pay cash I will have to raise the price to $2,500. The following is an itemized breakdown of the charges:

$650  Furniture

$200  Additonal- you offered so I will gladly accept

$750  Fuel/Transportation Charge- the closest Office Depot is 7.5  miles away, 15 miles roundtrip.  I estimate that the fuel charge and wear and tear on the car would work out to $50 per mile.

$400  Meals- driving makes me hungry and I will need to eat after driving to Office Depot

$250  Snacks- driving makes me thirsty and it is hot out so I will need to stop in to a 7-11 and grab a Slurpee and some Corn Nuts

$250  Incidental Fees- my wife doesn’t understand business like we do and it will be very hard to explain this business transaction to her.  It is easier to give her $250 and tell her to shut up and go shopping.  $250 should be enough to buy her silence.

Please let me know if these terms are acceptable.

Thank You and God Bless

Streaming Files

May 25th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I came across Orb a few days ago. You go their website and download their application. The setup was quick and easy. Once you have your account setup it will allow you to stream your music, picture and movie files to other devices. I set it up and quickly was viewing a slideshow of my pictures on my Blackberry. You can also use your game consoles to access your files turning them into media centers. I turned my Wii on. Went to the internet channel and in a few minutes had accessed my account and was viewing more of my pictures and home movies. It was easy to setup. I just don’t know how legal it all is. Sure I can view my own pictures with no problems but I wonder how the RIAA feels about the ability to stream music?

Lunar Eclipse

February 19th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

There is a lunar eclipse tomorrow.  While not as cool as a solar eclipse the lunar eclipse has some things going for it.  They happen more frequently and you won’t go blind staring at it.  It is supposed to start between 10:00 pm and 10:50 and last three hours.   You think scientists could be a little more precise with the time.   What if I am held captive by an angry tribe of ferocious natives.  They are going to kill me and eat me.  I tell them that my magic is strong and I will block out the moon at 10:00 if they don’t release me.  If it doesn’t start until 10:15 am I going to be an appetizer.  Thanks a lot scientists.

Rinspeed SQuba Car

February 14th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

Cars that can go underwater are no longer just for spies. The Rinspeed company is testing a Squba car in Silver Springs, Florida. The car is right out of a James Bond movie. It can drive on land, on top of the water and it can submerge 33 feet under water.

Xbox 360 Failure Rate

January 22nd, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

Wired had an article today that an insider is saying that the failure rate for the XBox 360 is around 30%.  I don’t know how credible the source is but 30% is a significant number.  I would like an XBox 360 but I am not shelling out the money for a buggy console.  The main reason I want one is so that I can get Rock Band.  Neither items are must haves for me so I can wait out the problems.

GM’s Driverless Car

January 7th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

This was being featured at CES this week.  I need one.  I could sleep while it drove me to work.  On a good day it takes me 15 minutes to get to work.  That would be 75 extra minutes of sleep every week.  If my math is right that would be 65 extra hours of sleep a year.  That would be sweet.

Olivia Munn

January 7th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I used to be a big fan of Tech Tv’s The Screen Savers.  Then G4 swooped in and changed the show.  Then it went through a complete overhaul and came back as Attack of the Show.  In an effort to get the geeks excited about the show they added some eye candy with the introduction of Olivia Munn.  Eye candy is fine but the show isn’t the same and I rarely if ever watch it any more.  Geeks also like Slave Leia so I am sure they love her as the new host.  If you want to see more Slave Leia’s check out Leia’s Metal Bikini There is a whole site devoted to the costume.

December 11th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

I am getting a DSLR soon.  It will have a lot more features than my current ultra compact digital camera.  I am not sure how to take advantage of all of the features.  This is Part 1 of a tutorial to master your DSLR.
