Looking for a tiki light? I have found a pretty cool selling lots of tiki and Hawaii themed lights. They have ukulele lights. Hula lamps with hula girls that move. They even have a Surfer Duke lamp. If you are looking for a light for your bar check them out.

If you are in the market for a ouija board and you are a fan of the tiki, Vampirahna makes a tiki ouija board. It is a little on the pricey side at $99 but they are only available in limited quantities. Of course there is the theory that ouija boards let you communicate with demons and not friendly spirits you are wanting to communicate with. I don’t necessarily buy that but there is no sense taking a chance. I’ve seen The Exorcist and the last thing I need is to have some polynesian demon pissed at me.

You are throwing a luau. You have the food. You have the drinks. You have the decor. Do you have the music? No luau would be complete without the appropriate music. Don’t be one of those people that plays reggae at a luau. Reggae has its place but a luau is not one of those places. The same goes for Jimmy Buffet. No Jimmy Buffet at the luau. What you need is some good Hawaiian music with the ukele and slack key guitar. There are plenty of good musicians. One of my favorites is Daniel Ho. You can’t go wrong with one of his albums.

I have come across a lot of great costumes for infants. This is one of my favorites. It is good for a girl or a boy. All you need is a tin cup to complete the costume. Baby Mai Tai will be wearing this for Halloween. I just need an organ grinder costume for me.

The Hukilau 2008 site is up and running. This year it will be held from 6/12-6/15 and according to the website this will be the last year for The Hukilau. I have never made it to Ft. Lauderdale for the event. I have been to Mai Kai but never for the Hukilau. Looks like I have one more chance to get down there if I want to experience the Hukilau.

If only I lived in California. If I did I would be sure to check out Trader Vic’s. They have opened their warehouse and for a limited time are selling some of their overstock. Alas, I don’t live in California so I am out of luck.

Mr. Mai Tai gets a lot of questions. One of the most common is “How do I find a tiki bar in my area?” I was preparing to write a long post with lots of great tips and information. The problem I have is that writing makes me thristy. I write a sentence and reward myself with a drink. Write another sentence and have a drink. By the time I get to the fourth or fifth sentence I don’t really want to write anymore. I’ve read that Ernest Hemingway also subsribed to this method of writing. Then I found that someone had already done the work for me. Check out eHow for the instructions.

I have a fez. It is a standard red fez with a black tassle. I need a better one. Fez-O-Rama is the place where I will get my next fez. I just need to find the size of my head. I would like to get all of my friends fez’s too. People don’t wear fez’s enough. I would like to change that. I just need to pick out the style I want. I am leaning towards the smoking gorilla fez.

The Hukilau dates for 2008 have been set. If you are available 6/12-6/15 and are in the Ft. Lauderdale area you need to check it out. I have wanted to go to the Hukilau for years. I just have never made it down there. I have been to the Mai Kai and that alone was worth the drive from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale. I don’t know if I will make it down this year but one of these days I will get to The Hukilau.

I am collector of tiki mugs. My collection isn’t huge but I have my share of mugs. I stumbled across a helpful website the other day. Whether you are a veteran tiki mug collector or looking to start a collection Ooga Mooga is a site you should check out. You can post your own collection online for everyone to see. You can buy and even trade mugs. Part of it is a paid service but a lot of it is free. Cheers.
