Blood Sausages

March 4th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

On a trip to Puerto Rico I tried some blood sausage.  I didn’t like it but at least I can say I have tried it.  I never really gave much thought as to where the blood came from.  Maybe I should have.  Two German army cooks were recently busted for making sausages with their own blood.  While I am no expert I am pretty sure this is a food safety violation.

The Friendly Narwhal

February 5th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I have always liked the Narwhal. I have always hated koalas, seals and penguins. I think that is why I love this so much. You can get it at Presents of Mind.

No Sangria in Virginia

January 28th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

The basic recipe for sangria is as follows:

  • Red Wine
  • Brandy
  • Cointreu or Triple Sec
  • Sugar
  • Citrus Juices
  • Sliced Citrus Fruit

That concoction of wine and spirits is illegal in Virginia.  Who knew?  Since 1934 the state of Virginia has prohibited the mixing of beer and wine with spirits.  I have no idea why this is prohibited.  Who would have thought that mixing a few simple ingredients together could get you a fine.  I know that we will all sleep better tonight knowing that the state of Virginia is using its resouces wisely and is keeping us safe from the Spanish menace sangria.

FX Show Orlando

January 28th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I went to the FX Show that was held in Orlando this past weekend. It was a good time. While there we saw a quick show by The Enigma. The Enigma is a modern day sideshow freak. He is tattooed from what I can tell from head to toe. He was not born with any abnormalities so I guess you could say he is a self made sideshow freak. He spoke for awhile and then demonstrated a few of his talents. Among other things Enigma is a human blockhead. He went on to show us how he could drive a spike through his nose into his head with a hammer. It was tough to watch. Then he topped that by performing the same routine. This time with a power drill. He also had a grinder with him and some long pins. I can only assume he was going to take those pins and pull them through an arm or cheek. Thankfully, he had a limited time on stage and he did not get to it.

Oakley Medusa

January 23rd, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

Oakley is known for their glasses and sports gear.  This link to the Oakley Medusa Hat &and Goggleswas sent to me yesterday.  Who is this being targeted towards?  It is damn expensive.  $500 is a lot for a skullcap and that does not include the goggles.   It would be good for Halloween, possibly skiing but seriously who would wear this? It kind of reminds me of something you would have seen in the movie Hellboy.

Edgar Allan Poe’s Grave

January 21st, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

When I was in high school we took a field trip to Edgar Allan Poe’s Baltimore home and then went to his grave site. The tour guide at the grave told us the story of the mysterious visitor that would show up on Poe’s birthday. The visitor leaves behind three roses and a half a bottle of cognac. One of the old historians came out and said he was the mystery visitor and they did it as a publicity stunt. Someone else is now keeping the tradition alive. I hope we never really know who does it. Sometimes we need a good mystery.

Hirshorn Modern Art Gallery Contest

January 9th, 2008 by Mr. Mai Tai

I received a chain e-mail about the Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden having a contest where the artist had to create something out of one sheet of paper. I don’t know too much about it and can’t find any information about it so the validity of the e-mail comes into question.   Wherever these came from some of the things they did are amazing.

Yodeling Pickle

December 13th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

Maybe the Christmas pickle ornament isn’t for you.  I admit it isn’t for everyone.    Well if you don’t like the Christmas pickle maybe you will like the yodeling pickle. You read that right a yodeling pickle. The plastic pickle has button.  As you have probably guessed you press the button and the pickle will yodel like a Swiss mountaineer.  Nothing says Merry Christmas like a yodeling pickle.

Halloween and Thanksgiving are over. What do you do with those left over pumpkins? I suggest you build a pumpkin cannon and enter the Punkin Chunkin Contest. You have almost a year to get ready for the big event.

Mistletoe for the Ladies Man

November 30th, 2007 by Mr. Mai Tai

Mistletoe for the Ladies Man

I have been to plenty of holiday parties and it seems that the mistletoe is never around when you need it or it is there when you wish it wasn’t.  Then there is always that one guy that hangs out by the mistletoe all night waiting to swoop in like a vulture on fresh road kill.  If you are that guy here is a tip.  You creep out the ladies.  You need to be more subtle in your approach.  That is where mistletoe on the go comes in.  Instead of hanging out by the mistletoe, take the mistletoe with you.  You can avoid the uglies and go spread your special brand of Christmas cheer with the babes.  It conveniently attaches to your forehead with the provided suction cup.  They say diamonds are a girls best friend.  This is clearly the ladies man’s best friend.  The only downside I can see is that you will be left with a suction cup mark on your forehead but that is the price you have to pay to be a ladies man.
